Decided to use a partition programme to extend/delete partitons on my pc running XP Pro as only allowed 20gb for the OS and this is not enough. Currently have three partions on HD - c: d: e: with loads of space available on e: C: has OS, D: has programmes and E has documents etc. If I delete d: and e: will programmes currently installed on d: still work bearing in mind the target paths will have changed from d to c if I delete d partition. Also I have utility programmes on c so will end up with two folders called "Programmes"!! As I type I am thinking may be better to resize partitions???
Want to make this as painless as possible so would pay for a programme. Is there a preferred one?

I have looked at the partition discussions on this site and looks like the freeware utilities may be a bit complicated??

parted magic download the ISO

burn to cd using imgburn

then boot from cd

when the program has fully loaded (just use default options)

open up gparted from the GUI that comes up

seems long winded, but it's rock solid, and a useful disc to have

I made the disc get the first menu and choose run using default settings get two quick messages "loading image" then another loading message ( so quick I didn't write it down) followed by the word ready then the screen goes black, no sign of HD working, leave it for 10 mins and still black screen! The only way I can then turn PC off is by holding in power button. I've remade the image disc but same thing happens???

hmm

try another 'version' in the boot menu

they have a few on there, some machines don't like certain boot types etc..
