I currently have a 250GB hard drive and would like it broken down into 3 smaller partitions. I normally do this by reformatting the drive, but it currently has windows XP on and don't want to have to reinstall it.

Is there anyway to partition the drive. I would rather not have to buy Partition Magic either if there is a free way to do it, e.g. using virtual drives or something?

There are free tools that do the same job as PM. Theres always a risk associated with playing with your partitions though - back up your data first.

I haven't heard of any other technology that will do the same thing in a diffferent way...

If you do have another drive then you could clone windows onto it/reformat and partition the 250gb then clone windows back to it.
