Hi all after passing my car test today Wooo Hoo

has anyone done the pass plus?/ am going to do it and wondered what it was like as u get cheeper insurence (althou i get it cheeper as am 25yr and not some kid)

cheers if any one shed some light

I did it, doubt its really worth it with you being 25 though. Didn't really help me with my insurance costs, it did make me more confident with motorways though.

Pass Plus is definitely useful if you're younger. It knocked a few hundred quid of an insurance quote I did on a Mini Cooper S and I'm 18.

I did it, it saved me a bit on my first years quote but that was it. I don't think it was that much, hardly worth all the messing about and the expense. It was handy for motorway tuition i suppose.

I passed about six months ago and my instructor was hammering away at me to do the pass plus, until I sort of gathered that his motives were to get even more money out of me.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the PP.

LOL. The fact that if you do your PP you reduce the risk of you being at fault if you have an accident is not a benifit?

Along with the additional training. Lets be honest its normally an additional 6 hours training for about £20 per hour ish so thats £120. Most of the larger reputable insurance firms will give a discount if you do it that equates to at least a years NCB. This normaly is worth more than the cost of the PP course.

You'll get out of it what you put into it.

Mind you what did taking profesional lessons ever do for anyone except line the stinking rich money grabbing ADI's pockets?

/me goes and count's gold bars in the cellar..............

Not if you're over 25 it doesn't. It works out to about a £50 saving.

I will most certainly not be doing pass plus. I have had a number of driving lessons in the dark and in the rain - which is totally unpredictable as to when it's going to happen anyway. If i'm going to give my instructor another £120 i want 3 two hour motorway lessons, not 2 hours in the rain if i'm lucky and waiting 3 months to get 2 hours driving in the dark. I know it's extra miles but if i can't do normal roads in a vartiety of conditions after 30 or 40 lessons plus practice then i wouldn't pass my test.

I will be doing at least two motorway seesions when i pass, not pass plus.

i did mine and i enjoyed it! was the first time after i passed my test that i drove the car my way (no handbreak neutral to change into reverse etc.) also had the L plates removed so i was really on my own! motoroway session was invaluble learnt a lot about moving over for peple joining the motorway etc..

i did all sessions in one day for 100 quid. was about 8 hours solid driving with breaks of course, had a great laugh we went up the m56 to manchester.

Saved £300 on my insurance with it - did a quote with a without it.

Worth it for £150 and I feel I'm a better driver with ti.

Try phoning round some insurers see what they say, way up the benefits for and against, and have a look many councils now give an incentive, know hampshire give you £75 towards your pass plus course.

yea finding out am getting a cheeper deal with Pp but i've also found a company that does not take Pp and gives me a cheeper deal then the ones that do take Pp but more ringing around tomorrow
thanks all for Advice

When I was 17 (only 4 years ago!) I saved £1200 on my insurance with Norwich Union by taking Pass Plus. Not only that but because I asked my mother's current driving instructor to do it with me, we only took a single 2 hour trip in my car and she gave me the 'pass' sheet stating I had done the requisite 8 (?) hours.

Easiest £1200 I ever made :p.

I think the bubble has burst though, you're not likely to find quite such a big discount. It's worth a shot though :).

Its like everything else. You get what you pay for. Cheap insurance company's can be a real PIA when it comes time to pay out. So my experiance is to go with the larger reputable company's and pay a few £'s more and get an easytime when it comes to the need to claim.

There's a reason some things are cheap.

I started my lessons in December so i had been driving in the dark and rain for ages. Can the instructor just do the motorway bits of the pass plus and knock it down to a couple of hours?.

If not i might give it a miss, Ive been taking lessons for 1 1/2 hours a week since December now. Ive driven in snow, ice, high wind, rain and on loads of different roads bar motorway. I'm getting really bored of lessons now and doing some on line quotes it only saves me £100.

IMO it is worth doing. I had a pretty decent time with it, my instructer thought i was a pretty 'competant' driver as it was so she actually instructed me on how to hoon a 1.9HDI 206 around country roads for three hours(she was an ex police chase driver dude), had some lunch then drove home on a motorway.

Definetely made me comfortable on motorways and gave me some 'controlled' experience of chucking skavvy cars into corners you think you shouldn't get around, and some friendly experiments with lift off oversteer. Was a pretty fun day tbh!

EDIT: Oh yeah it saved me a massive £500 on insurance to! 306 dTurbo 1700 TPFT down to 1200 TPFT.

There isn't any reason why not unless he chooses not to, in which case i'd just find an instructor who will or use a relative who's a very good driver who will do it properly.

That's definatley what i'm going to do :)
