..Or something along those lines.

Somebody told me it can reduce your insurance by a fair amount ( For a new driver especially )

Does anyone know anything about this, and if it is worth doing?
 
Yes it is. There is no test involved. Your instructor just signs something after driving around in the dark, the wet, on a country road and on the motorway (and possibly city driving, snow driving). For a new driver, it can take several hundred off of your premium.

It has to be done within a year of passing your test.

So if it takes off anymore then that from my insurance ( The bloke i was talking to said it could take upto £500 off =O ) it'd be good. And the extra experience of course...
 
I couldn't get any savings of more than the course cost, therefore couldn't justify it. Other people, though, can make huge savings. Best to check with the insurance first.
 
Generally it can bring your insurance premium down by a fair chunk, run a few quotes first but you also get the extra experience from doing the course. Have a look at your local county councils website as I know a fair few offer a refund of part of the cost nowadays, I know hampshire do anyway.
 
Look into how much you can get off your insurance 1st tho!

I considered doing it years ago when i passed my test, but real life figures off my insurance were fairly rubbish... actually most didnt even amount to the value of the pass plus lol
 
I did mine when it was being offered for free by my council, and from what I've read it effectively gives you the equivalent of 1 years NCB. I was a named driver at the time though, so it didn't affect me anyway, although it was useful getting some experience on the motorway.
 
To be honest it's worth it for the experience it gives you in different sitations that you will get into but the test doesn't cover properly.

Mine was £120 4 years ago and saved me something like £700, which was why I did it, but after doing it I'd suggest that you do it even if it doesn't save much/anything. :)

Definately. Can't remember what i paid for mine 4 years ago, but i know it didn't make a huge difference to the price of my insurance. But the extra driving experience with someone there with me was well worth it imo
 
Its not just about the savings on your insurance, its about learning how to drive on motorways and at night. something that the UK test does't cover. the knowledge i have gained has probably stopped me from having an accident through sillyness and made me a more confident driver and it saved me £400 on my insurance.
 
Just about to finish my Pass Plus - as has been said, it's well worth it from the extra experience/confidence that you get alone.
The insurance savings get more the older you are - i.e. I'll save 40% with DirectLine for being over 25 (1 year NCB is only 30%).

Bought mine down by about £200 in my first year of driving, then about £100 in my second so has been beneficial. It's also a good way to introduce you to motorway driving.
 
Having Pass plus made no difference to my insurance when I was 17, 5 years ago. The cheapest insurer I could find didn't take it on board.

As for experience, I'd already done plenty of near-motorway driving (A roads that are near motorway) and plenty of night time driving.

Therefore pass plus was irrelevant to me.

However if you know you can save money with your insurance company then go for it.
 
I found that generally, it'll more or less pay for itself but not a lot more than that and the motorway driving experience is pretty helpful. I'd say its worth doing.
