Hey guys, as I have posted before I have my RAF selection test today.... WHICH I PASSED :D , the top mark you needed to get the "hardest" ground trade was 68... I got 67 :p ... to do my trade which is communication and information systems specialist you needed 58... I aced it !!
(By the way it’s not a percentage or out of 100 or anything, just an over all mark)

Anyways to the problem.
I spoke to a Corporal who gave me my grades etc and we discussed what happens next, basically my trade is currently available and recruiting!
He said he would be able to get me an interview next week and if all goes well I would be starting my career in the RAF by December January  !

The only thing is, i'm still at college doing a btec in software development that doesn’t finish till may/June next year, and I don’t get a qualification until I do the full 2 years.

I told him this and he said that it is completely my decision what I do, but if I put everything on hold until then, and come back that it proberly wont be available to me anymore and I could end up waiting 6-12-18-36months to get in which really is far too long :(

So what do I do? I really want to join the RAF and abosolutly hate my course at college but I have put a lot of work in so far (getting merits and above).
Some people have said to me I won’t have any qualifications but GCSE's if I drop out, but when i’m in the RAF I will gain loads of qualifications including Cisco’s.

If I do decide to go in now I will still stay at college up until the day I go in just in case they turn around and say there is a problem with my medical etc.

Would you go in in January or finish college then possibly have to wait a year or more to go in?

Woo a Huddersfielder :D

Hmm that's a tough one, to me it depends on how sure you are that you will pass your physical etc. If you are fairly sure (and it obvious that this is where your heart is, not the BTEC) then I would say ditch college and go for it :)

Its a no-brainer mate. Whats the point of persuing the college course with a view to getting a career you aspire to, at the potential cost of the career you aspire to ?

My dad says to do same, that the career will offer you more etc.

The fitness test for me is to run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes... i have a lowish fitness atm (just swimming at mo) but going to start running every morning so should be ok with that

Is that with the aid of jet propulsion or not ?

if you hate your course etc, then bin it and do what you want to do with your life.

if you dont need the qualification to get the RAF job, then just go for it.

if you will get Cisco certs and so on through the RAF (which i believe they will pay for), then these trump anything you can get in college if you want to get into IT.

dont do what you feel you are obliged to do. do what you want to do. if it all falls through, you can always go back to college.

You answer the question yourself, the RAF is what you want to do and you seems to be good at it. So follow your dreams, regret is a horrible feeling.

Anybody else got anymore input?

thats a tough decision to throw away two years of studying but on the other hand at least you will have a job.
i say take the job mate forget the course you could always do it agian later on if you wanted to :)

Join the RAF!! College courses will still be there and I'm sure there will be an option to finish it at a later date. :) Well done on passing the tests.
