Passive Cooled 8600GTS

Aye, I'll be getting a passive 7100GS or passive 7300GT with HDMI for my HTPC. Not even considering anything as powerful as an X1950Pro, but I only plan to use it for movies and nothing else, I'm sure a gamer would love a passive X1950Pro (which is where the PowerColor PCI-E model comes in.)

Still, the 8600GTS isn't all bad, I mean it comes with SupCom! ;) :D

I want one..

Sure its not a 8800 GTS... but it supports DX10.. its silent.. and its reasonably priced at £99.. .so will be the perfect addition to my HTPC.

Where did you find the £99 figure? If it's £99 then X1950Pro be damned.

Looks really cool. Bet it would make a great silent gaming rig if combined with a stock e6300 under something like a ninja! :)

Edit: Woot... 1000 posts! :D

I just built a Sugo HTPC with a Thermalright SI-128 in it, it's bloody awesome.

I am using it on an X2 3800+ but it's great for Core 2 Duo as well.

didn;t think that a x1950pro could be cooled passivley. anyone got a pic of the passive cooled x1950pro card?
It's a bit gigantic, but it'd fit in a Sugo. Designed by PowerColor.

I think nowadays passive cards arent that important for media centers, as you can get virtually silent coolers anyway, certainly ones u cant hear when all the case is closed.

The 8x00 doesnt offer any new purevideo features over a 7x00 anyway I dont think, so people might as well just get 7600GSs still for their HTPCs

my god that massive, looks like the raidator in my car

Still keeps it to one slot. It's a penalty you have to pay if you want your X1950 Pro to be passive.

Look at that 7950GT that is also passive. Fast yes, but it needs awesome case airflow and good fans, or you're going to get trouble anyway.

i wonder how temps would be if you slapped a 12cm fan onto that passive cooled x1950pro.

Would probably be quite good, but then you may as well just go for any other X1950 Pro, I don't think any are particularly noisy. :)

true, also heard that they don;t clock that well either regardless of temps? but not sure on that since voltage can be modded in software so....
