Passive Graphics Card - Not for gaming

that's pretty good going to get he PC quiet and still have 3 fans in it.

The route I've taken so far is to get myself a quiet CPU cooler, and I'm going to get a passive gfx card.

If I can quieten the hard disks down using some rubber strip I'll do that, if that doesn't work I'll have another think, if it does, I'll probably as you suggested, get myself a 120mm fan and mount it somewhere to blow over the HD's though I'm nt sure quite where I'll be able to mount it...

At the moment there aren't any case fans, and the mother board only supports one. would it be ok to just have one? moving air about in the case?

Ideally you want single intake and a exhaust fan for quiet and cool running machine. You could have a single exhaust but the case must have air vents in the front for the air to be moved through the case. Just placing a fan inside the case blowing air will do very little as the air the fan will draw through the blades is the warm air inside the case. I had the same problem with a full tower ATX, just single 8cm intake fans, no fans in front of the HD so used to bake. Stackers are perfect for this, but too big for htpc machine. Something like the TJ-08 with HD bays if front of fans would be perfect design, would need to purchase extra side cages (LL MF-30) or DIY strips from alumnium.

I wondered about that. I'll have to have a look at what space there is in the case for fans.

Are there any fan controllers or anything that I could use to add fans, Ie that take power from the PSU and allow connection of additional fans? That way I might be able to have a two fan setup like you mentioned...

You need to find a fan controller that has the power to drive case fans-most are designed for 8cm fans - they're lower current and also to have 4 pin molex connectors and not 3 pin, and also to have headers for the total number of fans you want to control. You can use 3 pin to 4 pin adaptors but if it's a MATX case it's already packed full of cables. Trying to find two myself, ideally in a 3.5" bay for the front & rear fans. Wouldn't mind a 5 way 5.25" for my stacker as well (4x 12cm, 1 8cm case fans)

The more questions I ask, the more complicated it all becomes!!! ;o)

I'm gonna need to think about this a lot. I'm gonna start with the rubber and see how that goes and what sort of temps I get and if the drives are any quieter etc.

I'll also have a look at the case tonight and see what could be done with regard to fan placement. And maybe have a good scout around for fan controllers.
