i have a socket 939 epox motherboard which has a fan on the northbridge which is *very* noisy, is there any way I could change this to a passive heatsink? And which heatsink could I use?

Thanks

It should work fine with a good passive heatsink like the zalman ZM-NBF47 or a Thermalright HR-05, as long as you have some airflow through the case. I am personally using the ZM-NBF47 on a asus p5w.

If it's a Nforce chip go for the larger Zalmann's, and you still want some direct airflow over the chip.
