Passport about to expire, question...

Hi there,

Being my usual slack self I have just checked my passport before I go on holiday and it expires on the 23rd June. I fly back to the UK from Kos, Greece on the 10th June. Will it be ok to use? I thought it would be fine within the EU but my father in law is adament that it needs to be replaced 6 months from expiry? Google doesn't give me a solid answer.

I've heard the 6month figure before. Can't say personally I'd go by govuk

Depends on the country you wish to visit, most require the passport to be valid for a minimum amount of time (i.e. 6 months), before you enter the country.

Seeing as Greece is in the EU I don't think there'll be any problems.

Because the country you visit wants to know your passport will still be valid during your stay.

You don't need a passport for Greece, just your ID.

Yes you do, if you're travelling from the UK. It's only within the Schengen area that you don't need a passport.

You do. The passport is fine as long as its valid for the duration of you trip.

True, but for UK citizens the only national ID we have is our passport.

Renewal prices vary on how soon you want it.

Pay double that and the passport office will interview you (to fill out the form) and you'll have your passport in 4 hours.
