Passport Application - How does it normally go down?

Bumping a 2 year old thread..

Anyway, just in case anyone is curious about the renewal process right now mine took around a week.
do you recall how long it took to start tracking on the TNT website? or how many days it took to be delivered roughly ?

Even with Covid it seems it's still only taking roughly a week, the websites says upto 5 weeks too.
Passport printed and sent1:21pm on 17 March 2022
Application approved 6:43pm on 15 March 2022
Documents received 8:55am on 11 March 2022
Application received 10:27am on 7 March 2022
Application submitted 10:26am on 7 March 2022

Documents received was just my old passport, didn't need anyone to verify my identity

I'm currently going through the renewal crap. As of today...

My wife renewed hers a couple of years ago and it was delivered by courier in about 6 or 7 working days.
On the rare occasions that I’ve renewed mine over the years I’ve always gone to the Passport Office in London and either waited, or dropped the application off and gone back the next day.
When the Passport Office was in Petty France, I’d park my taxi on the rank in Broadway, opposite St. James Park Station, and now that it’s in Eccleston Square I parked on the rank in Bridge Place SW1.

Do they now need identity verification for renewals?
I didn't and from submitting the application to them saying it's printed and sent only took 10 days.

my new photo looks almost nothing like my old one as well.

just waiting for TNT to collect my passport now... seems they only collect like once a week in batches from what I can work out from twitter... then your lucky if it actually gets delivered

been 2 days so far and doesn't even track on the TNT website yet

Guess so. I just went through the standard renewal procedure and it said I needed to get someone to verify my identity, and then they give you a dumb list of the only people they claim that can verify you. And then, assuming you know somebody working in one of the professions on said list you have to hope that they also have a valid UK passport too because they have to enter their passport number when verifying you. I knew a total of three people that fitted the bill, but none of them had a valid UK passport.

That's weird. I thought they only required that for first adult passport.

So did I, but apparently not. I'm guessing it must be random, as my Sister applied for a renewal in the exact same way I did but two weeks after me and she got her new passport a week or so back.

I got my passport today BTW and I applied on the 7th.
should have had it yesterday but TNT guy didn't even bother looking for my address

after it says Printed it will track on the TNT website around 2-3+ days later using your postcode and Pex number in the bottom box for tracking

The old passports are way better, this new one has some weird hard plastic coated page and you need to sign it.

on my last one I think the signature of mine was printed on it?

Got my old passport in the mail on the 30th March and then my new passport arrived on the 2nd April. As of two minutes ago, the Passport tracker still says:-
