passport h/d

hi guys,
my passport 070a h/d seems to have stopped working, the light on it lights up and the pc sees it as a removable drive in the task bar, but it does not show up in my computer so i have no way to open the drive.
any ideas how i can open it or get the pc to see it properly.

see if its in disk management.

sorry it does show as, disk1 unknown, not initialized, and unallocated.
it wont let me initialize it says the media is write protected.

help im going mad.............. :rolleyes:

try safe mode or ubuntu, to get all the data off the hdd, and then try reformatting it. but I'm no expert, it is just what I'd do.
