how fast on average does it take for them to send you a new passport?
I know there is a fast track service, but what if I use the "normal" service.

Also will going into the office myself expedite the process?

I think you can get it the same day if you go into the office, it probably costs a lot more though.

Just spoke to the IPS today on the phone for a similiar situation. I booked flights from Gatwick to Rome on the 24th May and then realised ten minutes after that my passport ran out a few days ago.

They said as it's May the queues (especially the London office) are getting larger and larger because of the summer holiday period. They could not guarantee that -although the average times at the moment were about three weeks- a new passport would reach me in time. Had to get the one day premium service and go to the next available appointment time next Thursday, 17th May.

Prices are as follows - £77 normal, £112 fast track (1 week turnaround), & £129.50 one day premium.

Remember though you need to have the application filled in whichever method you choose, so request one in the post anyway. If you need your passport within 4-6 weeks, do not fill it out online!

It took about 2 weeks for my renewal to come through back in February. I've heard people say it can take longer in the busier Summer months though?

wow just checked for me since I'm renewing in June next year..... I have to send mine to france and pay Where to send

How to send

We recommend that you send us your application by secure means such as registered post or a courier. If using a courier to submit your application you should not pay for a return service as this is covered by a separate fee charged by us - see below.
How much

Passport fees in France are:

Adult passport

32-page passport - 164 Euros

Courier fee – Each customer will be required to pay a courier fee to cover the cost of returning supporting documents from Paris and the return of the passport from the UK.

Courier fee - 25 Euros

They don't allow me to send the forms directly to London, they do this for me then charge me 25 euro for the privilage.

Nice :(

Our British passports run out next year, so we might get Irish ones as they are cheaper!
Dual citizenship win! ;)

it seems very fast recently, 2-3 weeks for a renewal
2 weeks for me earlier this month. I went to the Post Office and paid for them to check it and return it to the Passport guys. Had it back within 2 weeks. I was very impressed. Now for the DVLA guys to return my driving licence that went off for a medical renewal on the same day I had the passport application sent back. 4 weeks and counting DVLA! :p
