Has anyone replaced theirs recently? If so, did you use the online service and have a new one in under three weeks? I need a replacement by the 26th (three weeks yesterday). Or should I just pay the extra and go to a passport office to not run the risk of it not arriving on time...

Edit, I've just booked the go to the office option.

I've booked the fast track service where they delivery it within one week. Knowing my luck (and finding it this evening with water damage over the picture) I wouldn't get it on time.

Why does the colour mean anything ?

The red passport was a modernisation of British passports in 1988 to match a format across the EC and be machine readable.

For over 60 years before that it was a black or (according to some) "blue" so dark it looked black cover.

Some people want the dark cover for token nationalism when the UK finishes the humiliating negotiations to "leave" the EU.

A passport is a passport no matter what colour surely.

Mine will stay red until it runs out.

Renewals are quick and you have them back in about 7 to 10 days. As you will be on the PASS system and its straight forward to renew.

I could do 60 to 70 a day renewals, but if you never had a PPT in your life then it was a nightmare to review applications. Counter sigs, confirmation of the counter sig was legit and birth certs etc.

Fill in section 1 and 2 and I think its 3 and sign and date the back, send recorded delivery and happy dayz. ;)

Forgot to say 2 photos and don't smile, wear a hat or sunglasses.

I sent mine away just with the post office but then realised I needs it for a trip away for work so phoned and changed it to next day delivery and they were ok, so if they can find it that quick and get it sent out you should be ok for the 26th. I’d maybe fast track in just in case as you never know could be waiting long enough, but like if you said if your close enough to the office and it’ll be cheaper than the fast track go for it!

I renewed my UK passport recently using the online service where you upload a photo and it took two weeks from when I mailed my old passport off from the USA to receiving my new one.

Half of that time was the trip across the Atlantic so I expect I would have had it back in a week if I'd been in the UK.

Used the online passport renewal service the other week. It took 8 days between filling the form in, sending old passport away and receiving the new one.

I was pleasantly suprised with the service.

Well ****** off. Was going to renew mine online a while back only to find out you need a damn printer. So as I'm in no rush I got the forms instead, and then just for the amusement of the Gods every photobooth I went too was out of bloody order. Then there's the fact that the forms are nigh on unreadable with my colourblindness, tiny pale reddish text on an orange background.
