Hi Guys

Looking for a something that has a database we can keep on a network share/NAS. Is secure, and can have 6+ users logging into it not all at the same time but you know what I mean

Any recomendations spring to mind? Been a few times where certain people in the team didn't have or know the password and I think this would be handy?

Thanks

Mart

I am not sure what is being asked here. Are you asking where you can store passwords so people can go see it and log in ?

That is pretty unsecure the only person that should be able to see passwords is the system admin in the admin tools.

You can set people up with their own individual passwords to access the network share, if they forget this then it is their problem and would have to contact the system admin/or customer support. Or you can create special privileged rights to those 6 people and only those 6 people so they do not have to use passwords after log in to access that network share.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, there are 6 system admins but we have a large number of servers and SANs I'd like somewhere to keep all the passwords for the different servers we have across the network, only the admins would have access to this and if we need to change/create passwords its all in one central location that only we have access to

Why dont you have any excel type file with all the password info, but keep it in a separate folder that has (read, write & read/write) access to the group of Admins?

Edit:
I also have a similar situation and keeps my passwords on a separate Dropbox account, linked to my Android phone and other "Admin" users (only 2 of them) have access to this drop box account as well, that way they dont have to even login to the network to get the passwords or any other details.

Was hoping for something a little more secure than excel? Seen the 2 below recommended

OR

We use keepass, its one of the best tools we found to do the same job as your after. Multi access isn't a problem, if there are any duplicates or multiple changes at the same time to a single entry, it'll prompt you and ask to merge/discard etc.

Those are password managers I assume?
Surely you can't have it more secure than setting the access permissions to folders!

Pen and paper located somewhere only the admins can access can not get anymore secure then that.

Personally there should be one master server that all the others communicate with right ? so how come these system admins are not using the admin tools from that to view or change passwords. secondly why so many system admins allowed you really should only have 1 maybe 2 as a back up system admins with all rights the rest should have restricted access. having 6 system admins is not really ideal unless they communicate really well with each other and always leaving each other information.

I guess I am just to old school, and times have changed.

I don't think the OP said admins...

Buisnesses store passwords for all sorts of reasons - think website accounts for business directory listings, purchasing all sorts of things.

We use Keepass and it works well for us, if i was looking to spend money on one though i'd be looking for something with LDAP/AD integration and auditing so you can see who checked out what passwords as well as set permissions in groups on who can access what in the DB.

EDIT: Yes the OP did say admins, still if the kit won't tie to AD or other for login (so users can use an admin version of their own account - keeps auditing good) then a password safe is still very useful.
