Passwords. Get an idea of how long it will take to crack yours.

I like my passwords, a string of words/numbers & names with random case changes.

Online Attack Scenario:
(Assuming one thousand guesses per second) 59.22 million trillion centuries
Offline Fast Attack Scenario:

I tend to use reversals.

Start with a string of 4 numbers, followed by a word (with mixed case), followed by the same numbers reversed backwards (with a special character in the middle).

eg : 1563alpha:alpha3651 gives you 27.98 billion trillion centuries

1563alpha:AlphA3651 is significantly better by just using capitals : 12.13 trillion trillion centuries
 
There's a dedicated app where I can view the passwords, change them etc but the main "magic" happens in a Google Chrome extension.

If I visit eBay, I simply right click and select "fill login" and it logs me in. If this is the first time since rebooting or after a predetermined period of time then it'll ask for my master password before the extension will unlock.

The main password database file is encrypted by the master password (only known to myself) kept on my Dropbox account, so if I lose a hard drive the passwords are safe etc.


I like this buy you have to pay for it, I'm sure there was a free version somewhere but I forget the name! :(
 
my itunes account got hacked but still not sure how or why by some kid in the US who bought stupid games with all the money. Got refunded but still not sure how it was done or why my account was hacked.

If it was a keylogger then they could have done it again?

this is better than mine however I have noticed still quite a few sites which will not allow special caracters (electricity and gas companies) ex nationalised companies where you are only allowa alphanumeric characters. I regularly forget these passwords as I currently take the first three letters of the site name then add a special character then a saying (including special characters.)

So my passwords change for each and every site.

Also I occasionaly change it to the last 3 letters of the site if I feel I need an update.

I quite like the 1Password thing having it on my phone aswell, I assume you can access your passwords from there like if you're out or something on a different PC. Kinda like cloud storage? Actually tempted by it heh
