Pathtracing mod for Minecraft looks impressive.

Few instances of things that would be solved with a proper ray tracer though - shadow popping and some areas where specular highlights, etc. obviously aren't being calculated against the full scene geometry amongst other problems. Would have been nice to see some stuff with moving lights as well.

Serves as a decent example though of what ray tracing when done properly can bring to the table though lacking in terms of full scene interaction and limited bounced light (though even fairly basic indirect lighting adds so much to a scene).

You have to remember that this is a hobby project and is still very much a work in progress. Also, it's just a mod for Minecraft :)

Problem is people keep pushing this as an alternative to the "RTX nonsense" but not understanding the differences and the implications in the longer run.

I like the approach they've used better here compared to the Quake 2 one though as it better shows off the lighting potential of these kind of approaches and how they can enhance the scene rather than just try and dazzle with over the top, poorly judged, slapped in effects. Subtle use of indirect lighting for instance can really increase the aesthetics of a scene.

Updated video which has some short bits with moving lights at the start and shows off just how much enhanced indirect lighting, etc. can bring to the table - with a few iterations and actually used in games I think people might start to see how good this stuff can really be when used properly.

Well I'm going to play Minecraft again. :p
Is this actually a downloadable mod yet?
Ive used it a little and it does look great but its not ideal for playing the game everyday. Dark areas are DARK. And some blocks dont seem to react correctly to the light. Chests are one example. Indoors they are basically just black even tho the room is lit.

I expect it isn't very mod friendly, if your really into modded Minecraft.
I bet it would make places like the twighlight forest, the errabus, and the deep dark truly frieghtning.

Doesn't work on AMD cards. And I can't get Crossfire working either so a single R9 390 8GB struggles with the shader mods.

Give it a go?

I don’t have an amd card right now. I asked because I hadn’t seen any videos of it running on amd and I’m very curious to see how the performance compares to Nvidia pascal to see which card offers the most efficient software based rayvtracing

It doesn't work on AMD cards, I checked. :( the normal SEUS mods work though.

DSOG says it runs on both, but the patreon page states -
SEUS PTGI will not currently run on AMD graphics cards. I am currently researching how to get it running on AMD cards. I will update this section as progress is made towards this.

Hope he gets it working on AMD soon as I'd also like to see how Vega holds up.
