Yeah, and he continued to film 'The Beast' after his diagnosis and during his treatment too, you could tell he was really ill though by the severe loss of weight.
Incidentally, if anyone hasn't seen that series then it's well worth tracking down the boxset. At least he went out on a high.
I suppose with the constant exposure to mass media and celebrity-dom we face, it is inevitable we are going to lose many people we grew up with: Hopkins, Schwarzenegger, Stewart, McKellen etc. Mortality indeed.

Having lost my mother and sister in law to stomach cancer this year, every time I read about someone dying from cancer now I can't help but feel a little cut up. It's not a statistic for me anymore.
