Pawel Adamowicz, Gdansk mayor, dies after stabbing at charity event

Pawel Adamowicz, 53, was attacked on stage in front of hundreds of people on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital for stab injuries and underwent five hours of surgery at a local hospital.

A 27-year-old with a criminal record has been arrested over the attack. Police believe he used a media pass to gain access to the stage.

Apparently the criminal who stabbed him grabbed the microphone and said he was sent to prison for nothing and that the civic system had failed him and this was some sort of revenge.

Apparently the Mayor was a much loved politician and people were queuing to donate blood when he underwent surgery.

Crazy how something like this could happen. Even with all the security at an event like this, the guy manage to get through to the stage with just a media pass.
