is there actually a noticeable difference with these and what's better if anything? anyone tried the x-fi ones?

I've tried the creative drivers and then pax V6.00 driver pack and then pax V6.10 pack and still had crap sound on vista. the surround effect is so messed up, even thou i have a extreme music, so i went back to onboard sound which sounded a ton better than the x-fi.

cheers, downloading in work, will finish just before hometime :D

xp64 xfi is pretty solid as it is anyway

Very hard to tell but i was getting a lot of crackling in my mp3's which began to annoy me so i decided on an upgrade to the latest pax xfi drivers. At first i thought they wasn't working no rear sound , went into creative console launcher , switched to 4x4 speakers then x-fi CMSS3D , clicked the surround option Upmix mode , Stereo Surround 50% ( very nice ).

The sound up front is more prenounced than the rears which i don't like , this goes for all drivers xfi/pax. Went into system control panel , Sound , Speakers , Levels Tab , Balance and reduced the sound for the front two speakers only. So the sound is balanced through all 4!

Happy so far :)

i found entertainment mode sounded a lot better in games than game mode :/

as neil said its annoying you have to mess around to get rear sound

im liking these, installed the "Wing Foot" set for my Xfi extreme music / windows vista.
first thing i noticed is i can now change to different modes without it stopping all sound from playing, which has annoyed me for ages on vista
other than that no huge differences, the sound does sound slightly better on all 3 modes though
