Right then,

Pay day has rolled around and now its time to get buying. My computer will be mainly used for playing Eve-online. the main requirement of this computer will be to run dual/tripple screens.

Here is what i have specced so far, feel free to chop change ect:

ATI 6950 toxic
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Antec Kúhler H2O 620

Cheers
Ben

Make sure you get the retail i5-2500K. It's only £2 more than the OEM and has a 3 year warranty instead of 1 year.

I assume you have a decent enough power supply? The Sapphire TOXIC requires 6 pin and 8 pin PCI-E power cables.

Is the RAM you're getting this one?:

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit @ £65.99

The difference between CAs8 and CAS9 with Sandy Bridge is tiny.

You can save £20 and get this:

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Or save £18 and get one of these:

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

The money saved will pay for an active DisplayPort adapter.

Other than that it all looks good.

If you're lucky the extra shaders will unlock on the Sapphire Toxic.

PSU is a Xclico 750W modular jobbie, so should be up to the job :D

I hope the 6950 unlocks, but if it doesnt it still a cracking card. TBH anything i buy will make my games better, as ive been using a dual core laptop!

I hope so. Difficult to say without looking at the power distribution. It's quad-rail 18A, or the single rail 56A version?

Looks good quality though. CWT / ChannelWell build, well built, modular and sleeved cables.

EDIT : ah. review.

12V1 - 4pin ATX12V & 8pin EPS12V (first 4 pins)
12V2 - 6pin PCI Express & 8pin EPS12V (last 4 pins)
12V3 - 24pin ATX Motherboard
14V4 - 4pin Peripherals & SATA

Not sure what to make of this.

Congratulations on missing the point of my post which was advising the OP on how to connect three monitors to a HD 6950.

The Sapphire FLEX can do this without a DisplayPort monitor or a DisplayPort adapter. Something which your card can't do :p

I didn't say anything about connecting more than three minitors because that wasn't relevant to the OP. They just needed to know how to connect three.

awesome, now you have thrown another choice at me!

With the display port will it run any slower than the DIV?

Ben

The Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 DirectCU II is no different from the majority when it comes to running 3 monitors.

You still need a monitor with a DisplayPort connection or an active DisplayPort adapter.

It's also 3 slots wide if you were ever to consider Crossfire.

You've also probably got more chance of unlocking the Sapphire TOXIC than the Asus DirectCU II.

You'll see no difference in image quality between DisplayPort and DVI.

ahhh awesome, i think ill stick with the saphire card. many moons ago i had a HD 2600 i belive? AGP x8 and a stunning 512mb. Was such a nice card, built well and had a feel of quality about it.

So changes to my first list, have been to swap out the ram for the Kingston ram and was the processor over to the retail version for moar! warranty.

As for CF on them asus cards, you surely must need one massive mobo to fit them in! At a later stage i might consider crossfire, 4Gb of graphics..mmmmmm

The Asus card isn't the best for Crossfire.

Unfortunately VRAM doesn't work that way with Crossfire (and SLI for that matter).

As the data is duplicated across the cards you still only have effectively 2GB of VRAM.

as for the power supply questions, the PSC comes with:

1 x 4+4pin CPU +12V
8 x 4pin Molex
4 x 6pin PCI-E Power
1 x 8pin CPU +12V
1 x FDD Power
8 x SATA Power

And in eve atm i am with the Amarr Militia :D Although everyone lol's at FW, there is a lot of fun to be had and a lot of iskies to be made =P Last week i exhanged LP to the value of about 8billion, for little effort!

Kwl never heard you can make that kind of lp out of FW. Im in 0.0 at the moment messing around. Mostly running plexes. and some PVP, not that Im the best.

Have fun with your new system. Just upgraded to a 2500k/570 myself and love it. CQ doesnt mess with me lol.

i have to have CQ turned off, or it takes me a blood age to dock! Although i did have to turn it back on and to max to have a look at my Archon <3

heading home from work now so will be ordering as soon as i get in!

thanks for the help!

Sorry to drag this up, but i thought id update now i have all the bits.

Put it all together, the build went smoothly (being a relative noob). The worst bit of the entire build was putting the clamp down on the processor, crapped myself the entire time!

but once it was alltogether, powered up first time and runs like a dream. Eve looks awesome on it, and it runs BF3 on ultra with no problems. Although i did manage to stress it out in haven? Kinda looks like wow in mega graphics? Went to about 10FPS on some parts!

The last PC i built was a P4 system, why have they moved the pins from the processor to the motherboard? Also i was struck by the size of the graphics card (the last one i owned being a ATI HD2600), the 6950 toxic is a beast!

Thankyou all who helped me, and to those who play eve, see you in space :)
