PAYG sim for occasional tablet use

Does anyone know of any PAYG sims which can be loaded with say £10 credit, & used infrequently in a tablet or 3G Usb adapter for backup emergency Internet access?

All the mobile broadband ones I have found seem to require a monthly top up as the data expires after 30 days & don't have 'credit' as such. The standard PAYG sims which have non-expiring credit apparently don't work in data only devices like tablets/Usb dongles.

GiffGaff. Load it with £10 then disable automatic renewal and remove your card details just to be sure. From what I remember it should last the month and then use up the data / left overs. I can't be sure as I have mine on a recurring £10 and automatic top up if it goes under £2.

You can even specify data only packages on giffgaff.

Or just buy a top up voucher and don't give them your card details at all

3 isn't bad for data.

I've been using GiffGaff for a backup tablet sim but I can't really recommend it - 4G test just now - 178ms ping... 15kbit/s download 86kbit/s upload (not joking) - switch out for an O2 sim in the same location 48ms ping 40Mbit/s down, 8Mbit/s up.

EDIT: Infact off to cancel my GG now.

Used to get ~3.6mbit/s which was usable, dropped to dialup speeds but then they made a big deal of network improvements and it was upto around 0.3mbit and getting a little better so I stayed but now back to dialup speeds so I finally cancelled.

Dunno if its like that everywhere but its been like it for me at a number of locations.

Shame, the 3 mobile PAYG SIM deal is excellent. 3p minute, 2p text, 1p MB. And the credit never expires.

Just got myself two of the EE 100gb/mth for 2 month sims. They only work if you register and start using the data but I realise its not a long term solution for you. It is damn fast though!
