Payment for computer work?

Depends who it's for, if it's a close friend/family I usally do it for free or whatever they offer to give me is fine, I've been given anything between a favor in return to £50.

If it's a friend of a friend or someone I don't really know I charge £25 for the first hour and £10 for anything after that. Most things are fixed in about a hour but it hopefully makes them realise that I won't be at their beg and call, plus going out to strangers houses and the petrol involved has to be taken into account.

Never try to pimp myself out but word of mouth seems to spread over time, some days it's just more hassle than it's worth but the odd favor in return has been handy.

After my work experience (after GCSEs) 4 years ago, that company have been recommending me to their friends when they have computer problems.

They are all generally fairly rich, and I never need to state a price. I just ask them to pay whatever they feel is right... the worst I have received so far is £15 for 30 minutes work. Once I got £50 for being in their house for 10 mins :D - I did say it was too much, but he had already written the cheque and couldn't be bothered to write a new one.
I don't mind if they pay me less, because I have made quite a bit of money (for a student) over the last few years, and they are really nice people.

Sorry, back on topic - £20 an hour would be appropriate :)

50-75 for a build
20-25 per hour for other pc related stuff.

That seems somewhat on the steep side unless you provide other services, is that mates prices? When I used to build computers for mates at work I generally just said to pay what they thought was appropriate, the going rate seemed to be about £20 and a crate of beer but that was a few years ago.
