I'm a membership secretary for a fishing club and I've had to get a form printed and signed as a LOA from this morning.
The accounts on hold until I get it sorted.

It seems they do ask for photo ID and sometimes goverment documents.
If you think there is a remote chance the email is suspicious then don't click the links and just go directly to their website manually as you'll probably have an alert message in your account.

Yeah I can't use PayPal, it asks me to jump through these hoops, which I tried, then it never unlocks. Just impossible to make an account. So my 2 cents is walk away and save yourself the hassle. (no it wasn't a scam)

If you get something like this, you just goto their website without clicking on links and goto your account page / messages to see if it's genuine. Send a question to them if you need to

This one I think might be genuine. Mrs had a strange one recently where she received a request on her phone app for money to be sent to a random person, she hadn't ok'd it but called PayPal to report it, apparently they said there is a flaw in their system where on the app you can't say "no" and users just click ok and send a tonne of money to a random person. it was possible to stop it on the web browser though but not on the app. Damn scammers.

Before anyone jumps on this, it was for Ko-Fi for a Minecraft server!
It was mostly tongue in cheek with a slightly serious side as this kind of verification tends to somewhat happen due to account usage patterns.

If it was for OF I'd say so, but it wasn't. Not this time!
Have you used the account recently? if there has been a period where it has been mostly inactive a sudden payment to a relatively unknown/anonymous party can trip hijacked account detection.
You can still pay using PayPal, receiving just goes straight into bank.
Vaguely recall doing this a couple years ago too.
Curious what people dislike about PayPal though? Especially for sending payment.
