The last time I used PayPal it was on a really small amount and I remember it taking loads of it so I swore to never use it again. I sort of have the need to use it again so I relooked at their fees and they seem to have changed

https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees

If I am reading this right it'll cost me abosolutely nothing to have money transferred to my account (I get the full amount that the person sent?) and it'll only cost me to remove funds from my account if it's less than £50? Is it true? :p

Thanks

it doesn't cost you to transfer money to your account as long as its £50 or more but any money you receive through Paypal from someone else will have a certain amount deducted. I think its something like 4%.

thats only if you have a premium or business account. If you have a personal account and the other person doesnt pay you with a credit card then there are no fees.

t depends on your account type, for simplicity get yourself a personal account, if your only using it for a small amount that is,

Right, so if I have a personal account it costs nothing to recieve from another PayPal member?

yes, thats only if they dont use a credit card or switch card to pay, but nearly all paypal members have a card on file, so when they send the payment you will have to upgrade your account, which is a simple click of a button, and after that all payment recieved will have a charge of 3%-3.5% + 20p which will automatically deducted for the amount your have recieved

same here, but its the quickets way for me to get cash, well that and nochex, but everyone seems to like using paypal, despite the fees

The reason Average Joe hates Paypal is because Average Joe isn't used to the business world.

Fancy Things Cost Money...that's why the personal accounts are free and the accounts which can accept card payments have fees...even then, they're a helluva lot cheaper than Average Joe having to go for a proper Merchant account setup....

Paypal does have its flaws in may areas but what it does do well is provide well-priced instant transactions for low-to-medium value personal/business users.

"Average Joe" here prefers (free) bank transfers...surely that makes more business sense? :p

I must be weird, because I'd rather wait for a cheque to clear than pay paypal for their (lack of) service.

But nor is PayPal, to get your money out of it takes "5 to 7 working days". A bank transfer usually takes less time than that. "By card" isn't really relevant either considering it's from one bank account to another. The only way in which PayPal wins over a bank transfer really is its buyer protection but even that is said to be a joke by many on the internet.

The person who just won your item on ebay wants it asap and cannot be waiting for days for the cheque to arrive then days for it to clear.

Well they can pay the extra to make up for what PayPal take in fees ;)
Usually, items with paypal as a method of payment on do attract more bids so in a way, yes.

Tough. They are welcome to send postal orders if they wish. Or bid on someone else's if they'd rather do that. I accept that I'll lose some sales for my stance but as I say, I accept that.

I don't like eBay either really, this thread was based on a thread in the Member's Market which I hope is based more on trust than eBay is.
