If I was to pay someone £1000 via paypal, what would the fees be for the recipient ?

He reckons £47.

A calculator on the net i've just found says £34.20.

Is he talking out of his arse or could it be that much?

Couldnt tell you but I would be more inclined to go with his estimate than yours, pay pal fees become stupid when you get in to 4 figure sums of money.

Maybe there is someone on here who has sold a car for a grand or two on ebay and could help you.

3.4%+20p so your right as far as i know (well what i am reading on paypal your right)

It depends on his type of account to be honest, I know some paypalers (sounds wrong) don't pay as much as 3.4% and others don't have to pay anything to receive money.

hmmm

should I be sending £1000 via paypal is another question, its not a nigerian scam though- legit ebay car purchase.

yep if you don't upgrade to a business account, then you don't pay fees, as long as the person sending you the fees, already has the money in the pay pal account.

I would, if car is not as described, it's much easier to get your money back. Although If I was you I would take cash and pay when you get up there.

yep also the more the money to go through a persons paypal per month can also reduce fees.

i think if £1500 per month fees drop to 2.9%+20p

So all in all then chaps - he's not being entirely straight with me is he?

e.g. its not going to be anymore than £34.20 is it.

You would be mad to pay such a fee via paypal. I refuse to use it for anything greater than £20.

Get a bankers draft or a bank transfer, it is so easy to reverse paypal fees plus the costs are crazy as well.

4% tops.

Why are you asking ?

Because im trying to gauge seller's honesty. I don't think im actually going to pay that much via paypal, but he's mentioned he will accept it.

In that case £35-£40 is about right.

Either way, he shouldn't be charging you extra for the amounts Paypal charge him.

if you bought something through Ebay then its upto the seller to pay any fees including the Paypal fees , for him to ask you to pay these fees is agaisnt Ebay rules
