Hi guys. Bit of a random one here but I have googled the *** just a quick polite reminder that swear words should be completely edited out. Do not leave a couple of letters in place and use stars for the others *** out of this and keep coming back with no real answer.

I have recently sold my bike and buyer wishes to pay via PayPal however we are not sure what the fees are. Could anyone help? The bike sold for £1045 how much in fees would I pay for this?

Sod that.

Bank transfer or nothing

Fees i dunno maybe start a transaction and read the price before you press send ?

Don't think he will have issue with BT. Just a bit paranoid about giving my account number and sort code to a complete stranger? I haven't even met him but he wants it.

Really how hard did you look? Go to the paypal homepage, bottom of the page is a 'Fees' link

https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees

Go down to "Selling with paypal"

First section "Get paid online", follow "More about online payments"

https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/accept-payments-online

Middle links bar, follow "Fee calculator" (takes you to the bottom of the page), for <£1500 of sales in a month:

You should pay 3.4% + 20p per transaction

Took me longer to write this post than to find that info.

Buyer pays with Paypal.
Collects bike from seller.
Buyer asks Paypal for refund as not received.
Seller has no evidence of sending bike.
Paypal refund given.

Buyer has new bike for free.
Seller has no bike and no money.

Do not use paypal for something like this... Some guesses made, but it doesn't look good.

If someone collected something in person and wanted to pay via Paypal I'd laugh loudly at them, but I guess this would boil down to basic theft - at the end of the day, if that happened to me - I wouldn't even bother talking to Paypal at all, my first port of call would be nobody other than the Police.

I had one buyer pay me through Paypal and then come to collect the item and tried to pay me the cash also. I informed him he had already paid me!

Bank transfer is much safer for a seller - once the money is in your account, it's going nowhere without some sort of lawful intervention, compared to Paypal where they act as judge/jury/executioner based on what the buyer says, most of the time.

The only time I ever dare use Paypal, is where I *have to* because of Ebay rules, aside from that, I'd rather be buggered by witches than use it.

Accepting PayPal is mandatory for all Ebay sales now. Refusing to accept PayPal as a form of payment on completed sales is grounds for your Ebay account being suspended.

Agreed, BT or nothing.

I don't know where this misconception that people can steal your money with only your account number and sort code comes from but it is a common, and annoying one.

As said, there is nothing that can be done with your account numbers other than pay money in. Don't worry.

PayPal on the other hand, he can reverse the transaction and get free stuff. At that value I'd be very very wary.

I've never understood why people are scared of giving their bank account number and sort code to anyone.

What are they gonna do Pay in tons of money at random to you and make you upset with joy?
