Paypal invoices

Yeah, I absolutely hold my hands up to being a dufus. I'd not used PayPal or eBay in ages and lost my savvy with it tbh.

Yeah, we've all been had at some point on ebay or similar. So the Post Office can't do anything for you? I don't understand their resistance on the matter.

I think once it's handed to them they're legally/contractually obliged to deliver the item. Also who's to say someone didn't find the proof of postage on the floor, not very secure if you go handing parcels back to randoms.

The women I handed the parcel to, was there when I went back. I also had the police contact them.
Their policy is to not tamper with a parcel at all until delivered.....woefully outdated considering the amount of fraud nowadays.
The sender should need proof/receipt that they ARE the sender and maybe a police incident number to have them hold off on delivery.

Next time, tell them there's a 5000mah Lithium Polymer battery in there or other prohibited item. See what happens then as they certainly won't deliver it.

I don't like to say I told you so but......

Sorry for the quick short first reply but then saw others had covered it by telling to to log into your PayPal account and make sure it was there.

I didn't think I needed to add to it. Sorry :(

Don't worry mate, it's no ones fault but my own.

Ooh and I got a kick in the nuts by a mod for good measure too. For disguised swearies.
Christ they really know how to stick it in and break it off.

I'm confused. The first time you contacted paypal you say they said it will take time for the payment to clear because you're new, and the second time you called them they said the email was a phishing attempt? So is the money pending or is there simply no record at all in your paypal account?

What's there to phish from a proof of postage?

This all just doesn't make sense.

Did you actually log in to your account before sending the item? Did it show the funds being held?

Why are you even reading any emails from 'paypal'? Always ignore any emails, and log in directly into your account.

Ok, to clarify,
i DID log into paypal, but because i don't use it often enough, i didn't think to look in the message area. The invoice i sent was set at 'pending', yet the buyer/crook had said the funds had left his account. That's when i went looking for info (on here) and paypal forums for advice on 'pending' statuses. Tried ringing paypal, but just couldn't get through.
In the meantime i received the scam email from the crook telling me that the transaction will say 'pending' until i reply to that specific email with proof of postage. Once received the status would then turn to 'active' and payment would be released to my account.
He basically jumped in and circumvented papal, and i guess predicted that i would query the 'pending' status, and thus effectively answered it in the legit looking email.
So i posted the item.
Only after did i find grammer discrepencies in the email, and so i rang paypal, and got through. The scam email actually came from "Paypal Notification" [email protected]. Paypal said that aint ours, contact the police.
They also said (as some of you guys have) that i should check the message centre in my account and NOT emails (lesson learned there). The 'pending' status on the invoice was simply because the buyer/crook hadn't actually paid at all.
But his email explained why that was so i thought it was fine.

Any clearer?

I'm pretty sure he logged into paypal via the phishing email, so yeah funds comprimised big time!

No i didn't. I did click on one of the HELP and CONTACT hyperlinks (did this from an ipad to minimise risk of catching a disease) but they were dead, and this aroused my suspicions a little more.

Yeah that's clearer now.

I was also confused as to whether he'd paid for the item, and how he was able to claim it back. But it seems that you've been duped into thinking he'd paid for the item, then wanting to get your funds, posted the item to now finding out the buyer hasn't actually paid for the item.

Result-aaah!

Royal Mail just rang, they have held the parcel in their Camden sorting office and will NOT deliver it. I need to email proof that its been a fraudulent transaction (police incident number, paypal email confirming the phishing scam) and they will send the phone back to me after 18 days.

So....my huge rant to them on the phone seems to have made some difference. :)

Nice result - really close call there!

Strange that they wouldn't hand back the parcel in the first place despite having a receipt or whatever. Seems a bit of a pointless policy - what reason could there be for doing that?

In the words of the police fraud officer who also tried in vain to get them to hold off delivery..."jobsworths"

I do think that aside from my shouting and the occasional profane word that the fella i spoke to last night and this morning actually understood and sympathised with my plight.
And, in no small way imho, their outdated policy is actually aiding criminal activity. So i think he decided to do what he could to help, which i greatly appreciate.

My vague legal knowledge would suggest if the PO had been knowingly complicit in a reported fraud (as you presumably also had an incident number to provide) then you could bring a civil claim against them in the small claims court.
