Paypal problem

A few weeks ago i brought something off ebay using paypal then afterwards because the part was incompatible (my fault) i contacted the buyer about a refund.

He happily said he would refund my money so the same day i was sent an "Echeque" through Paypal with an expected clearing date of 3rd March.

That has now been and gone and on my paypal it still says uncleared.

I have contacted the seller who sent the echeque and he says the money was sent out his account.

Is it common for the echeque to take a few extra days to clear?? If not what should i do

Yes it can take another 3 days until you see the money.

i just got paid for something i sold by echeque, i dont understand what the point is, why not just send it normallly?

can anyone explain why someone would want to pay by echeque?

I hate the bloody things. The longest period of time one has taken to clear into my account was two weeks and a day, that's more than a little longer than the date it was "expected" to clear.

Yup they take ages - always take the "expected" date with a pinch of salt, usually takes about 3 working days longer than the quoted date

i got paid by one the other day, and expected clearing date is 14th March =O

When i buy something on the bay i want it ASAP

E-cheque normally means when someone pays with a credit/debit card that has passed expiration date and they have to do a manual bank transfer of funds.

Or it can also happen when people move money from there bank account into there paypal account and then make a payment to you, before paypal actually give you the cash, they have to speak/confirm funds with the bank.

And as we all know, banks dont do anything in a hurry

No, there is an option to use eCheques when making a Paypal payment. I bought something on eBay last night and had a dig around the Paypal payment page before making the payment, and there was indeed an option to use eCheques there (as well as the usual instant payment etc etc).

Oh right, I have never seen that before, it must just mean a bank transfer then not using a card, I cant really think of anything else it could be, When ever I have got one, I email the sender to confirm they know how they payed.

Twice now the reply has been "I thought payment was instant, oh hang on my card is out of date", a quick refund of payment and they have payed using a different card instantly, its always worth checking.

Three times now I have been BLAMED by the buyer for THEM paying by eCheque, I even got verbally abused after I informed one buyer that there will be a delay as the thing had to clear (just like a paper cheque).

There's people like that about unfortunatly, I think I have been real lucky where ebay is concerned, every buyer/seller (about 100) I have had dealings with has been spot on, I guess im due a nightmare trade sometime soon. lol
