I opened a dispute on paypal because an item I recieved was damaged to the point where it was not able to be used. It seems the item was damaged in transit because the broken off bit was in the packaging and the previous photos did show the item to be non damaged.

The seller has responded and opened a claim with the courier and I sent some pics of the damage to them for him...so far so good I think.

But now the seller says he wants me to cancel the dispute because it has "frozen" his account, but no worries he will pay.

I am skepticle about this but I don't know enough about paypal and couldn't find any useful info about this on their FAQ and to be fair to the seller he does come across like a nice chap.

What do you guys think? dodgy?

Dodgy as anything. Also make sure that you have taken the dispute through eBay if you bought through there, and not gone straight to PayPal.

What he should do is refund you then claim back the money from the courier in his own time. It should not be up to you to wait for him to claim from the courier first and I'm sure PayPal would agree.
