Nothing to do with this forum...

Buying a bike off someone, long story shortish hes dropping it with a deliver company for me so it gets to me, he has sent me a payment request as for some reason me sending moneys isn't working.

Am I covered by buyer protection still if he sends me a request? If not I'm out...

Any info appreciated.

(Would post on PayPals message board but that takes ages, where as you guys are ace and much quicker haha)

Where did you buy the bike? (Website or the like).

I'd be concerned about the payment request, if it has no link back to the original purchase.

Why would you trust someone to send you a bike?

Cash on pick up OR not at all would be my shout.

Stay well clear otherwise. NEVER trust anyone on Gumtree. Go pick it up and pay for it. Otherwise - leave it alone

Christ no, people get scammed all the time on there.

Gumtree - cash in hand only,

I myself am looking at buying an expensive bike, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use Paypal even with Ebay and everything it offers..

Cash only for Gumtree, when I sold my road bike he came and inspected it had a quick ride then gave cash and off he went.

Paypal courier screams scam. You might get a bike in a box but it could be completely different to what you thought you'd bought and you have no cover.

Yeah, Gumtree for local, cash in hand purposes only.

Why you'd pay over anything but (unless you're there in person for a large bank transfer or the like) and certainly why you'd trust someone to "post" it to you is another question.

That said, you did the done thing of asking on here, I think everyone else has already said the same things :D

You have to go through the steps on the PayPal website.

I had mine limited for a little while last year, I followed the steps but for some reason that didn't help. Turns out that it was due to one of the cards linked to my account having expired.

Payment request transactions are not covered to the best of my knowledge. Sounds fishy to me.

yeah had to follow steps on website
they wanted proof of id etc
made sure i logged in from official site and called them using official number
hate the way more companies are looking for ID sent to them, no end to it

Check it's not a fishing link and if it is change your PayPal account password.

I can picture people doing this and the guy just riding off without paying. :p
