The pc we use at work had a hard drive failure the other day and now that it has been repaired and with avg antivirus installed, for some reason the machine has gone quite slow and load times after loggin on are in the region of 1hour! It just displays a dialog box with the message regarding personalised settings.

The machine itself is a celeron 2.6ghz with 256mb ram.

Also, how do you make the user account an administrator. it always used to be but now we cant install any programs using this account, it has to be done with the administrator account, and if logins take so long, we dont really want to switch accounts continuously.

your help would be much appreciated.

Get the people who 'fixed' it to look at it.

Get them to also tell you the correct Administartor login details. You can then alter any other accounts to your liking.

May be that the new hard drive is operating in PIO mode and that's why it's dog slow. It's not he highest spec PC but should be a lot quicker as you know.
