PC and cancel culture, what are the pros and cons?

What are people trying to cancel?
I don't think it leads to a more tolerant society. In fact I think it promotes the exact opposite. I don't most people care what other get up to until they start shoving something in their faces and affecting things they are interested. The most recent little tantrum I saw was someone complaining because a person with hearing was cast as a deaf person in a TV show. Between things like this and having to hire an equal amount races or sex, rather than just the best person for the job, I can see why people get upset.
It's mostly Gen Z and the very last of the millennials. I remember told off by a Norwegian because I referred to a boat as she. Guess what. English has genders, just like Norwegian. It's the same Actor, Actress, Hero, Heroine.
I always joked that if was the monarch rather than having New Year's Honours, I'd have New Year's executions, or at least public floggings. There would certainly be a fair few frosted flakes on the list.
