PC automatically logging out

Hey, hopefully someone might be able to advise me on this

Haven't been very good lately with keeping my anti-virus/spyware software up to date. Was browing the net the other day (no porn, honest...) when i somehow got a virus (didn't download / run anything). Updated my avg etc and ran them to clear any viruses etc. Everything seemed to work properly, so i rebooted, but from that point, whenever i now log into windows it automatically logs straight back out before anything loads up.

I've tried starting in safe mode / resoring the last known good settnig etc, but i still can't log in.

Windows XP by the way.

I'm tempted to just **** it and reformat, but really don't want to lose my music :(

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance X

sorry for the copy/paste, but do this

disable system restore
remove your 'av'
run ccleaner slim http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim
run nod32 trial http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php
run mbam http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
run spybot http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/Spybot-Search-Destroy/1043809773/1

still screwed?
run combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

following this, stop going to bad sites etc

use firefox http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
install this addon for firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

when firefox opens following the restart, tick the 'Easylist' subscription

Now remove the NOD32 trial and spybot and install Microsoft Security Essentials

AVG is very poor

Why would you loose your music?

Strip the drive out and put it in another rig, backup your essentials and off you go.

For future, partition the drive off (C: for system and D: for documents and music), then if something like this happens again, you just need to repair / re-install C:

D: can be left as it is and just reassigned once you're back in
