Can anyone shed any light on this?

I've taken this from another site because it is the exact same problem but his was a new motherboard not being compatible, Bare in mind this system was working perfectly fine this morning & has done for 3 months, I only powered down to add some new ram I got from another member on here.

On power up all case fans start, the cpu fan starts but at a lower speed, and the psu fan starts as well. The LED on the motherboard light up. After about 3-4 seconds on, the power goes off. After another 3-4 seconds the system comes back on by itself and this loop continues until I switch off the psu or pull the plug. At no point do I get any POST beeps or video output. It sounds like the cpu fan is only at about half speed & it was always louder than that when starting before.

To my specs before the problem started:

E6300 C2D @ 1.86ghz
Asus P5K-E wifi
2x1gb OCZ PC2 6400 4-4-4
2gb corsair value stuff
8800GTS 512mb
500GB Samsung HD502HJ Spinpoint F3 SATA
80GB Seagate IDE
OCZ 600wSXS

To specs when problem started:

E6300 C2D @ 1.86ghz
Asus P5K-E wifi
2x1gb OCZ PC2 6400 4-4-4
2x1gb OCZ PC2 8500 5-5-5
8800GTS 512mb
500GB Samsung HD502HJ Spinpoint F3 SATA
80GB Seagate IDE
400GB Seagate IDE
OCZ 600wSXS

I have tried bare bones, removing battery, trying 1 stick of ram of each kind, re-plugged everything in, different gpu. The only things I haven't tried is my other CPU & a different PSU cause I don't have one :/

I don't understand how changing 1 stick of ram for 2 others could cause this? Even going back to the old config doesn't work.

take the ram and cpu out, boot pc and nothing, power off

then remove cmos battery and use jumper pins to clear cmos, leave for 5 mins

insert old ram and cpu, then put jumper and battery back in.

boot PC and get ready to hit delete.

now i can tell from your post you know all this, but i suspect your new ram has confused the boards timings.

i have tried this in the exact order above and had results

Just tried that mate & thanks :)

But it didn't work :(

Still the same cycle.

[edit: Tried a different C2D 2ghz cpu, with 1 stick of 6400 OCZ ram & 8500GT. Still the same]

I had this once, and had to manualy reset the bios to automatic and something else, but can't remember what.

Maybe not the problem but worth a shot.

Thanks guys, I don't know what you mean by manually rest the bios to automatic Fob do you mean removing the battery?

I have a friend coming down shortly with another PSU so I'll give that a try.

Google the paperclip test. You can short the PSUs 24pin block to trick it into powering on. If it fails without any devices attached you'll save your mate a trip ;)

Troubleshooting hell indeed!

While waiting for my friend to turn up. I tried my old motherboard, 1 stick of ram & 8500GT. PSU stays on with this setup but still don't get any display, tried the 8800GTS also still the same, Different cpus also tried.

Power Supply it is I think! Can't have 2 dead mobos, 2 dead cpus, 2 dead gfx & 5 dead sticks of ram that just isn't possible or is it haha.

[Edit: Definitely the PSU time to get a new one heh]
