I have been wondering about installing PC-BSD,. Anyway I bought a 1.3 DVD in 2007 & I could never get it to boot up right & it never went into KDE, I know it has been like 2 years. Is there a GUI OS control panel yet (like YaST2 for OpenSuSE 11) I heard that was on the roadmap for 2.0. Since 1.3 there has been a lot of changes right?

Specs are EVGA. nForce 650i ultra Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8200 2.66GHz
6MB Cache Dual Core 1333MHz 2 Gig DIMM-DRAM NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS with 512 DDR3 memory (PCIe 1.00 x16) will any of that be a prob.?

Will I beable to boot Windows & PC-BSD?
Does it have to go on the primary partition?
Should I get it now or wait for version 2.0?

I've been dabbling with PC-BSD for a while and it's pretty good, works fine on my spec (in sig) :) I don't know what you mean by "waiting for version 2" as it's already on version 7.1! In fact, 7.1.1 was released yesterday :)

I thought that was the FreeBSD version under it? Doesn't it seem a little odd they where only at 1.3 in June 2007 & are up to 7.1 now? http://www.pcbsd.org/content/view/42/11/

Wow, forgot all about this from years ago! Couldnt tell you what state its in but i think ill be giving it a bash on my old laptop later on today as it looks like a pretty good/simple to do bsd!

Oh and according to the wiki page they did a jump from 1.5 to 7.0 mid last year but there is no explanation why there

Ok seems a little strange to me. Well I have my 1.3 DvD, should I install that & upgrade or just download/buy the new one, I had a bit of trouble with 1.3?

It will be the same reason that Slackware jumped from 4 --> 7.

Do you have a blank cd to burn the lateist one to? If so id generally do that (especially if you had problems with your current dvd, but in theory you can just update it once its installed)

PC-BSD version numbers jumped becasue they started off on there own 1.*.* and then decide to trace free BSD releases to make it easyer for people to follwo so version 7.* is based on version 7 of free BSD so when PC-BSD rolls out version 8 it will be based on free BSD version 8.

Is a very good system if all your hardware works, was tempted to run it at work, but ended up running Super OS.
