PC build for my friend

Forget your friends ramblings and go along the route doomspeed suggested, maybe to make him a bit happy go with 16gb ram even tho 8gb is enough for gaming.
Well i'd suggest the corsair 540 case rather than the 750d as I had issues with it, bit you may get lucky and avoids the issues.
Amd drivers are fine, there are issues with nvidia drivers as well.

It's not quite as easy as that though is it? It's his money after. I can't just refuse to get him what he wants. I can strongly advise him but at the end of the day it's up to him.

It is actually that easy, tell him you're building it for him and know more about computers than he does. Also tell him once he's used the PC he'll thank you for it :p

Edit: or do what doom suggested :)

Okay, i've had a thought.. If you are going to show him this thread maybe we should explain rather than just criticise rightly or wrongly.

First of, RAM. RAM doesn't make your PC faster/more responsive, SSD's do that. The major thing with RAMin gaming is the speed not the quantity. The faster the inofmration can be accessed the quicker it can be used..

I've been playing some pretty intensive games recently and my RAM usage doesn't exceed 3.5-4GB. The findings from this tech website also prove that 8GB is more than enough: http://www.techbuyersguru.com/Ramgaming2.php

The only reason you'd need more RAM is for video editing or rendering. I was doing a render (for uni) on my PC and ran out of RAM at 8GB.. UInstead of 6-7 hours it took 24+.. But that was a highly detailed assembly, rendered A0... All my A3 renders were done within an hour.

SSD: While an SSD improves load times, i dont see the advantage of having it on an SSD, it hardly improves load times in game and doesn't make it look any better. Id personally get a small 120/250GB SSD and a 2TB Mech drive..

GPU, well there have been issues with the R( 290(X) and black screening but i feel that is rare and will be sorted soon. The value for money of these cards are insane though.. Its well worth looking at..

All in all.. The first spec you/he produced i could build a rig for £500-£700 LESS and run the same game at the same FPS as you and have it boot as quickly. .. I would still be able to do the same in 2 years time..

could go with a x79 build

would say 290 xfire over the 780ti but for that you'll want non-ref cooler versions.
don't really need the 1tb ssd so could save money there but something to make your friend happy I guess, if he really wants 32gb can add another 16gb at a later date.
does he need an os?

Does your friend even know how to check how much RAM he's got? What he doesn't know won't hurt him and all that......not that I encourage lying to your friends of course!

Nice build :)

It is..Stunning scheme. :)

But to prove my point, this rig (below) will play games EXACTLY the same as the rig above.. As Hex-cores and extra RAM (or SSD space) don't affect gaming in anyway what-so-ever...
