Hello,

I am coming back to the UK visiting my parents between 10th - 31st of October and I'm planning on building a new computer for my Dad to replace his ageing PC he is using now( pentium4, 512mb memory).

Usage : Web browsing and webcam with myself and my brother.

Nothing exciting about the build below, our budget is 200 pounds max

The below spec is basically just the cheapest selection mostly.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £44.99
1 x Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2 (AM3) Motherboard - Retail £33.98
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) £29.99
1 x OCUK EZCool NA-705 Case - Black (500w PSU) £24.98
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT25664BA1339) £21.59
1 x Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £187.02 (includes shipping : £11.25).

i wanted to maybe use the ASRock N68C-S Motherboard as it has that core unlocker thing that looks interesting.

Dont need an OS as i have that already.

i know it is not a mega build, cheap and cheerful but do you have any hints, tips, recommendations.

thanks

Tim

better graphics chip, better PSU, better memory (forgot DVD-RW)

EDIT, this is over your budget, but I highly recommend a PSU which is by one of the better manufacturers, otherwise your list is good for the money.

(You also get free shipping which helps >250 posts therefore £210 + DVD-RW ).

check the case/psu you spec'd there are concerns on the psu, so i'd save a bit extra and go with nkata's spec.

a little over buget but a little faster than amd so worth throwing in the mix, the psu is oos atm but could well be back in stock byt he 10th

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Might dig into my own pocket a little more to strech the budget.

This new build will last my dad until it is out of date, just like the one he is using at the moment. Also looking forward to building a computer, not done one for ages.

Thanks

Tim
