I have an Asrock Alive NF4g-dvi motherboard and do not seem to be able to figure out where some of the cables go

HDD Led
Power Switch
Power LED
Reset switch

I assume they all go into the Panel Header, but can't see anything which indicates where

Does it matter?

Cheers

Paul

Yes, it does matter. You are looking for a group of around 12-14pins on the motherboard, if you are looking at it from the back of the case then it is normally somewhere near the edge around the top right but your motherboard manual should be able to clear it up for you.

Yes it does matter. The motherboard manual should have the correct positions for the leads. Reset and power switches don't require correct polarity, but the LED's will require to be correct polarity (right way round)

I can see the pins and along the top I have:

pled+ Pled- pwrbtn# gnd BLANK-PIN
HDLED+ HDLED- GND RESET# DUMMY

My HDD Cable is White and Red
Power switch is Red and Blue
Power lead is Blue and White but is a 3 pin connector
Reset switch is Blue and White

Can't see anything in the manual to say which way round

usually the coloured one goes to the + pin

asin red + white led pin red cable to + pin and white cable to - pin or GND

download the mobo manual from the asrock site, I dont know why but the manuals from manufacturers sites seem to be slightly more detailed then the manual you get with the board..

Theres no mobo connectors section in the index?

Thanks everyone, as far as I can see I can't have the power LED cable connected as it has 3 pins.

Here you go, managed to find some old pics:

Before:
powerled1kx4.jpg

Split it down the middle with stanley knife

After:
powerled2ap4.jpg

Shave off excess

Job done! :)

Thanks, now got a PC with SP2 all up and running.

Only 1 problem left I have an unkown PCI device within device manager, not sure how to work out what it is as I've no PCI devices connected.

Cheers

Maybe in the future all the HDD_LED, POWER, POWER_LED, etc, etc will be replaced with one big connecter and used with all cases and mobos. I hate jumpers, so hard to plug in.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised it has taken this long. PCs get more and more advanced by the day, yet they still haven't created a universal connector for the case wires. Oh well, it's not that difficult but still, why don't they make life easier for everyone?!

Because it makes it interesting, fiddling about with those stupid little wires ;) Nah, I'm not sure, it would be easier if there was a univeral connector like there is for a USB front panel connector but there isn't any huge problem without it.
