Hi All,
after building my rirst pc successfully my sister has me to build a rig for her that will be used mostly to play sims 3.

now i have tried varius specs but worried i maybe overspecing it as im trying to keep costs to a minimum!!

i was thinking something along the lines of

i wont be needing a hard drive or CD drive as i will re use the once that are currently on her 2 year old hp machine.

some detailed advice on the motherboard and gfx card appricated :)

thanks

No idea how the sims runs but a dual core and 2gb of ram might save a bit of cash. The 4730 has never reall convinced me; it seems to be made up of all the leftovers and stuck together which would be fine but they aren't really the best bits.

How about a mATX build in a nice small case? I haven't made one before so can't really recommend a nice case.

Id recommend looking at the AMD route personally, get more for your money and has future upgrade route unlike intel 775

- OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK) £70.99 (£61.73)

Sub Total : £196.50

You may even get away with the onboard gfx

thats not a bad idea!

although im hesitant relying on the onboard gfx as they have never really impressed me!

(current system as onbourd aswell)

but prob will go down the AMD route if the perfermance v cost is better then intels!

if i was going to get a gfx card is done listed above ok

According to the Sims3 site the minimum spec required is.....
FOR WINDOWS XP

* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1 GB RAM
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
* The latest version of DirectX 9.0c
* Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
* At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

FOR WINDOWS VISTA

* 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1.5 GB RAM
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
* Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
* At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:

* Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
* 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
* 0.5 GB additional RAM

Shouldn't be too hard to get a sys to run that awful game :D

you would think that but the pc she has a the moment meets there requirements but just runs so slow!!

lagggy graphics etc

i get the impression that these are whats requried to run the game but not to run it so its actaully usuable!
