Just a quick one really. I've been tasked with speccing up a PC for around £1000 - £1100. This is what I have come up with.

What do people think about this?

It has to be Intel for the CPU & Nvidia for the graphics card the guy is anal & won't have any other.

Main reason for 16gb was to future proof it really more than anything. Should have added he likes the case he chose too haha.

That looks okay though I'll see what he thinks.

Main thing really I was concerned about was the PSU bit out of the loop with those things!

EVGA a good brand for PSUs? I've only ever used Enermax/OCZ/Corsairs heh.

EVGA Psu gets my vote, I run one they are brilliant.

Tbh with the RAM I just picked one of the "this week only" as I was being lazy.

Drop the ram to decads one and pick the EVGA 750W.

Dropped the PSU to the EVGA one & added the 250GB SSD.

When you say 16gb isn't needed anytime soon how long do you think it'll be before it becomes the norm? My laptop & Desktop start to feel sluggish with just 6GB in.

The EVGA unit is made by SuperFlower and comes with a 10 year warranty

Lol I doubt it's RAM causing the issue probably due to CPU & HDD. I don't see it becoming the norm tbh it's only necessary for people performing tasks such as video/photo editing where some people may even go with 32GB. Let's not forget DDR4 is around the corner as well

Is this a gaming pc ?

Multi-purpose I'd say :)

dacads & JOSH86 thanks, he's fairly adamant on the 16gb ram too. Always a spanner in the works :D

This is what we have at the moment.

More than anything really is will all of it work together ok that is the main concern.

You wont need a 750W PSU as that Motherboard doesn't support SLI. I would drop the PSU down to 550W/650W. If you want to add a second graphics card in the future then you would need to choose a different motherboard.

Also Z97 Motherboards and the Haswell refresh cpu's are due out this Month. If he isn't in a rush then wait.

SLI isn't really a concern, I imagine he'd upgrade to a different GPU when the time needs, Main reason for choosing that bundle is the overclock already being done, I don't have time to make sure my own overclocks will be stable so better to have something cherry picked out. Will 650w have enough headroom should he want to add more HDD's etc in the future?

I'll see if he can wait a few weeks but he has that itchy trigger finger to get something new & shiny :D

Yes a good 650W psu will be enough for that build. Hard drives don't use a great deal of power, maybe 10 watts or so.

The Mount Doom cooler won't fit in the Aerocool case as it is too big. You will need to get a different cooler or a better case :D Sorry but not really a fan of the Aerocool.

I would take a look at the Gigabyte Z87 SLI bundle, as it has a better gaming motherboard (G1 Sniper)

YOUR BASKET
1 x ReAct Gigabyte Z87 SLI - Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4.3GHz Configurable Pro Gaming Bundle £118
1 x Alpenföhn Brocken CPU Cooler £32.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED316GM1600HC11DC01) £109.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £164.99
1 x Standard Build Laptops - Approximately 3 to 5 working days £0
Total : £435.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The Brocken cooler should just fit in that case as it is 157mm tall. The case takes up to 158mm.

There isn't a great choice of 650W modular power supplies, but you can save £10 by getting the Seasonic 750W Evo.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic M12II EVO Edition 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Fully Modular Power Supply £79.99
Total : £89.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

If you don't mind non modular then the Superflower Golden green 650W would be a good choice.

YOUR BASKET
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £67.99
Total : £77.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Having said all that, I would still say hang fire for Z97, as current prices could drop. Even if they don't you might as well go for the newer boards.

Lol isn't much in it between the PSUs might as well go with the EVGA since it is gold rated and has a 10 year warranty.

I agree about the case I would spend a bit more and get a decent one.

Well it is all built & he seems impressed with it so can't complain too much. I did try & build up one from your list Lee but came out more expensive than it should have done, plus the dimwit already ordered it!

Anyhow heres the finished build

One thing I will say is that heatsink is an absolute ***** to install! But it keeps everything so cool!

Looks good man, yes heatsinks are always a pain in the nutsack, probably the most dreaded part of putting together a PC :p
