Well, looks like our hobby has come full circle :D: http://store.steampowered.com/app/621060/PC_Building_Simulator/

I jumped on this early access purely to see what it was like. I think it's got potential, and they've already got a load of "official" brands in-game (MSI, EVGA, Intel, AMD etc). The gameplay is very "Car Mechanic Simulator" inspired - choose a part to remove, then have to remove things like screws to get those parts out, highlighted in orange etc.

Jobs come in via email, and you can order parts for delivery the next day (or pay a hefty premium for same-day delivery). Then have to plug in a keyboard, monitor, mouse and power to a PC, power it up etc. Install software, reboot, then run virus scans etc. You also have to do things like replace motherboards, graphics cards, upgrade RAM etc. You don't just click to remove these parts either, removing the motherboard requires removal of all power cables, SATA cables, cooling, lifting CPU shield etc.

Definitely still feels like early access at the moment (all computers sound quite loud with their fans, but maybe that could be a future gameplay element?) however the game is very playable, with plenty of jobs coming in.

Anyone else playing?

I've literally never heard of this before but it looks great!

I love the idea of creating and upgrading a new PC without the annoyance of having to pay for the parts! The only problem I can forsee is that I'll build a PC far in excess of my own and then feel compelled to buy it in real life! :p

Does this give you a budget to build your own PC (with profits from jobs maybe) on the side or is it simply building for other "people"?

Could be an interesting learning tool for people but I'm not sure I fancy playing "desktop support" the game lol, spend most of my career trying to avoid that.

To be fair you have avoided most of the actual work you've been tasked with during your career ;)

Does it simulate pulling your back out after trying to fit a USB cable in the rear of the case which is situated in under your desk and trapped behind some ikea drawers and stuff ?

I noticed I could pick up my "own" PC and start working on it, so I presume that you could build yourself a mega PC and use that for your emails :p there's case customisation, even RBG lighting that you change via an app on the PC.

some sad people out there then

In your opinion!

Some people like this sort of thing, some people like frantic FPS war games and some people even like Goat Simulators!

I hate to break it to you but there are quite a few people out there that aren't necessarily going to like what you like!

For example, some people probably wouldn't take the time to comment on something on a thread that they had no interest in!

Doesn't this seem quite expensive for what it actually is? Unless I'm not seeing some quite of business empire simulator that accompanies it.
