PC Country help

Hi all,

I need to know if there is anyway a piece of software could tell what country the PC its being run on is in?

I am a member of Gametap and some games are USA/Canada only, ive figured out how to download them anyway but upon running them it states that they can only be played in the USA/Canada and then shuts down.

I was just wondering how it knows what country I am in?

it looks up your ip address and that will be in database telling them where you are.

Using Windows it will probably search your Regional and Language options.

So it will look at the location that your computer is in using something that is built into windows.

^^ First thing i actually did was to set it to US central time and restart gametap however it doesnt work.

As for using the IP address, it seems that other USA games will work over here and i already know that they use the Country info from my billing address in order to determine what country i am in.

It seems that out of the 4 USA only games on Baldurs gate is figuring out im in the UK. Must be something else

I think its from your IP address. It knows what ISP server it is routing through and so can use that to work out your location
