Hi
I have an asus Maximus Formula motherboard that originally had 2x2GB of TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX in two of my slots and a Win 7 64bit OS. I recently purchased another 2x2GB of TWIN2X4096-6400C5C G. I changed the timings to match the C5 ram (5-5-5-18. When i left it on auto it set them to 5-5-5-15. I'm not sure if this makes any difference) and set my CPU speed from my previous overclocked setting of 3.2Ghz to 3Ghz (which is still overclocked from 2.66Ghz. I have the Core 2 quad Q9450) to get the computer to boot. So it gets into windows, but then as soon as i do anything processor intensive my screen goes black and flickers and i get an error that says my open GL driver has crashed and was recovered. The program that i was using (premiere or after effects) then freezes and i have to end the process. I seem to get this graphics crash over and over again when ever i do anything that uses processor power. Even choosing a font in Microsoft Word.
I read forums about this error and found no help about it so i decided to read forums about putting more ram in my mother board and i came across this one:
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=67070
So i changed the ram frequency to 667Mhz and set my CPU speed back to standard 2.66Ghz. When i upped the NB Voltage just a little bit it got unstable, so i set it back to normal. Windows seemed to be running fine for a while while i was editing even though i wasn't happy about my new average ram and cpu speeds, but then it crashed again with the same error after a while. So it seems that it still crashes, but not as often.
Using either set of ram by itself just in 2 slots does not crash the computer at all.
Is there any way that i can get all my 8Gb of ram running fine without my computer dying?

Hi
Yes i have. Both sets are corsair ram modules they just have different timings. But i changed them to match the slowest C5 module. And i've tried all the speeds i could that allowed my computer to stay stable.

raise the northbridge voltage slightly and it will work. Google your board to see what voltages people use in this situation.

EDIT: sorry, I see you have already tried that

Theirs a big difference between the voltage used by these two sets of ram, the TWIN2X4096-6400C5C use 1.8v and TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX use 2.1v. I would set your memory votage manually to 1.9v and see if your system is stable, if not try 2.0v.

I think your memory voltage is set to auto or 1.8 and it's not enough to power the TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX. I've had TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX and they ran fine at 2.0v for me.

Not that's it's gonna help you sorry, but I've never been able to get my computer to work with 4 slots occupied :( Tried it twice, had to sell them twice. No matter how much tweeking some motherboards just won't take it.

Unfortunately i have sent the ram back already now and i didn't get the chance to set the ram voltages up properly. I have a feeling they were both running at 1.8v. That sux. I have decided to use the money towards buying an ssd now to see if that speeds it up. I originally bought the ram to improve speeds when using adobe premiere and after effects. So i hope an ssd will help that too.

Thanks for the help
