hi guys, having not being able to sleep i turned my pc on this morning about 5oclock and the screen was white, no post messages nothing just a white screen restarted and it worked fine.

after about an hour of websurfing and youtube i started a virus scan (avast) and left it got back to it 5:30pm tonight and the display was a blank white screen again, no keys/sounds and the screen on my g510 keyboard was blank too

what can this problem be and how can i fix it?

also the pc was running fine all day yesterday from about 11am/3am no problems at all

also i am on said computer now backing stuff i need up

Just a white screen? Hm... That's very wierd. Well my first suspicion would be the graphics card as its a display issue.

I'd take the card out and try it in a different PC to see if the same thing happens.

there is also no other sounds the whole pc freazes, like the keyboard, sounds ect so it might not be a display problem or it might be more than one problem?, its working fine now (but for how long?), cards running cool at 39c, cpu running at 43c,

EDIT: also i am on this PC now myself

Driver issue quite possibly. There was a recent ati driver update. I would boot into safemode remove the drivers, restart and install the latest driver.

Is possible the card is at fault but that's where i would start fella

ive not updated my grahics card drives in ages!

i cant, when i update to the lastest drivers i get NO display from the pc what so ever, no one knows why, phoned ocuk, local pc shop nothing, then had the card RMAed and it worked fine...

so i dont think it could be the drivers, or it could be looking at it o.O

but none of the latest ati/AMD vison drivers work with my rig

crashed again between 4/6am

leaving the pc off i powerd it back up at 11am again white screen had to restart it a few times for it to work

it also happens more when i turn the screen off, and go to sleep, i have display set to turn off at 20mins but sleep/standby to never

Reading through your post am I right in saying this happens when you leave your PC for a while and you havent had this happen while you have been there?
If so I would check your power saving options for anything untoward, maybe switch all the options off and see if you still get this

Might be nothing to do with it but its a no cost test so worth a go

dont know what to try now, stress testing the card and it works fine, playing demanding games and it works fine?

going to do what happens when ever it crashes now, turn off the screen and just leave it, if leave it 2-3 hours, after that if it fails try again with another ATI card if it fails then i know its not the GPU

UPDATE: after 2 hours of the pc being sat on the desktop doing nothing windows turning off the display after 20mins but NOT puting the pc to sleep it locked up again, however this time sounds ect worked, has i left a song playing on windows media player, and the media buttons/screen on my keyboard still worked,

i am now trying the same thing with a differnt graphics card

well if it still crashes looks like its a new cpu/mobo/ram go overclockers monday and pick one up,

no way it could be the power supply? is there?

Maybe its the harddrive, if you could boot into windows try running a hard drive diagnostic

This would be my first thought. If you ahve a second hard drive or access to one tryt it and see if it boots

have you checked the inside's? fan vent's various things like that. only suggesting this as you say its an old rig may be clogged up with dust and over heating if its at irregular times.
Or possible psu problem.
Either way m8 i hope ya get it sorted as theres nothing worse than a dying pc :(

Try both of the above, this happened with my friend, it turned out her mobo had burnt out and took the ram and cpu with it.
