Pc crashing

My pc keeps crashing all the time or it won't come out of standby mode, this has only started happening in the past few days. i've tryed putting the clock speed back to 3.8 but it still keeps doing it.
 
Have you check your Event logs?
You could also install and run Whocrashed and see what it says next time your PC crashes.
Have you added any hardware, software or installed any drivers or updates prior to the crashes starting?
 
I haven't added or installed anything. It seems to be very random, it just freezes and i turn it off at the button. How do i check the event logs?
 
In XP just type Event logs or viewer in the "Run" box.
Also check in Device manager and make sure you have no "yellow flags", which indicate a problem with the device.
What are you usually doing when the crashes occur?
