PC Dead after another mobo...

The GPU socket on my mobo died yesterday so I got a replacement. I got a replacement mobo today, put it all together and it booted up and worked fine.

I then put a new cooler on the mobo, when I finished installing the cooler, I plugged in the power cable and turned the PC on to make sure the cooler and my other fans booted properly - they did.

I then plugged the cable out, connected all my fans, plugged the cord back in and I got nothing what so ever. No power at all.

I did notice when I pressed the on button on my case, I heard a high pitched noise and then nothing else.

Any help please?

disconnect all the fans, except for those absolutely necessary.then connect them back 1 at a time, and just to be certain check you are plugging them into correct sockets. as you said alraedy it only died after you connected other things. make sure your cooler is correctly seated too.good luck

Tried that, still nothing. I notice that when I press the power button the psu makes a split second high pitched noise.

It might be wise to use a multimeter to test the PSU. It's possible the old mobo was ok and the PSU just can't handle your power requirements to run the GPU i.e it's on it's way out or is dead now.

Google the paperclip test that might help you too.

Oh god not again, i feel for you man... Truly... Ok well... Does the system power on with no fans connected except the CPU fan?

Ok I got power to the mobo but now there's a really strange sound comming from the mobo.

From the motherboard..? Can you be sure that it is definitely the source of the sound?

What does it sound like..?

Sorry for another post but now when I turn the PC on, the CPU Fan spins for about 2 seconds and everything just completely cuts out.

I have no idea what could be causing this. :(

try plugging the CPU fan into a chassis fan header instead of the CPU fan header, and see if that works.

Could it be that the CPU cooler isn't making full contact with the CPU so it shuts down almost straight away because of heat? I had that problem once, even though the cooler seemed to be on fine, and the TIM had spread.

OK a.lot different now...

I tried my psu and gfx card in my brothers pc, everything powers up fine.

I tried my bros 8800gts in my PC and it booted up fine.

So its not a cooler issue, mobo or psu issue. Maybe its a temperamental gfx card?

Just figured I'd update.

I took my PC apart again and completely rebuilt it. Everything seems fine now however I think one of the DVI Ports on my GTX260 might not be working properly as it doesn't seem to detect a display when I use that port.

Oh well everything seems to be good now, I even got the cooler installed and temps seem great!

Cheers

OK if I unplug the 6pin power all the fans will spin etc but obviously there will be no display.

If I plug the 6pin in my fans will spin for a second and then nothing else.

What could this be ?
