PC does not turn on after using VR headset - time for new build or fix?

I am having a very weird behaviour on my son's PC.
Every time he uses his Oculus Rift headset, the PC does not power on after turning it off!
He's got a 2-year old build, Asus Z390 motherboard with Intel i5-9600 proc, GTX1070 GC, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB, on a old case with good PSU.
When this happens, I manage to get it started again by disconnecting all cables from MB, removing RAM and CMOS battery, and then after a multiple tries, it powers-off power=on several times before I can get it going.
Not sure what to do here, replace PSU or another component or go for a brand new build, though it seems all GC are out of stock right now (is it the new Bitcoin run?)
Looked at this one which looks nice,
FIREFLY ENTHUSIAST - INTEL CORE I7 9700K, GEFORCE RTX 3070
If so, shall I update the SSD / and secondary disk or is it OK to transfer if no real tech advance?
Thanks in advance for any help suggestion.

That sounds extremely odd. So odd, in fact, that I wonder if you may have mis-diagnosed the cause of the problem?

Firstly, exactly what do you mean by "does not power on"? Do any of the POST lights on the motherboard come on when you try to start the PC? Do any of the fans spin? Or does it just seem completely dead?

Secondly, are you really, really sure that the problem only occurs after using the VR headset? Can you try going a couple of days without using the headset, turning the PC off a few times a day, to confirm that it is definitely related to the headset?

I cannot think of any way that using a VR headset with a PC could do something that would prevent the PC starting up after being switched off, other than maybe overheating the graphics card/CPU. That would only be an issue if you were turning the PC off and then back on again shortly afterwards - is that what you're doing, or does this happen if you turn the PC on hours after it was switched off?

Have you tried the VR headset in another PC? I had a faulty pair of USB headphones that caused power issues with a PC. The VR headset might need replacing rather than any other part of the PC
