Hi guys,

I built a PC at the end of the last year and after a while the PC wouldn't boot up but the case fans and cpu fans spin and the motherboard lights up but the PC doesn't boot up. I have troubleshooted as much as I can but I'm still not sure what the problem is. I changed the PSU but the problem continued. I have checked both memory sticks in every slot, I also unplugged anything that wasn't necessary to boot the PC and it still continued.

I think it might be due to one of three things, the motherboard, the memory or possibly the CPU. I'd appreciate your ideas and feedback as I don't want to replace everything and it only being one thing.

Thanks in advance :)

Have you tried a CMOS reset - this sometimes works.

Also can you list your full specs please including PSU make and model.

I've tried resetting the CMOS. The fans spin for a little longer but still doesn't boot up.

The only way I've found to boot up my PC is to pull the power cable out just as the fans spin then plug it back in. This allows me to access the bios and then windows.

Will the specs of my computer help?

Intel i5 4670k
Asrock Z87M OC Formula
Sapphire R9 280x 3GB Toxic Edition
Samsung EVO 840 120GB SSD
Samsung 1TB HDD
ADATA 4GB DDR3 1600mhz X2
Coolermaster 750w PSU (Spare)
Zalman 700w PSU

Sounds very similar to mine although I wasn't able to boot at all. I've got a new motherboard and CPU arriving on Tuesday morning, that's what I narrowed it down to. I went as far as taking the mobo out/mounting on non conductive surface and tryin it with a known working psu. I reckon it's your motherboard, you wouldn't be able to run windows with a duffed CPU

Thanks Flashwerk, RJC and William-Mathew. I'll look into getting the motherboard replaced. It's still under a year old so it should be under warranty... I'll post back if it solves the problem.
