Pc Doesn't Shut Down?

Ok my recent new build all of a sudden won't shut down when i ask it to, meaning that i have to hold down the power button to manually turn it off which can't be doing my hard drives any good whatsoever! so what i want to know is what is causing this problem? is it my psu failing? genuine windows fault? i know i am currently having problems with my dvdrw drive could this be it?

Have you recently installed any new programs as there are a small few that can cause this error due to compatability.

What do you mean by won't shut down exactly?

i mean when i click "shut down" it just hangs and doesn't shut down i have left it 5minutes! urm the only programme i can think of is my xfi sound card drivers but why should this affect it?

I have this problem on and off with my overclocked e6300...I have a sneaking suspicion its actually a memory problem but thats just a guess.
