im thinking just the motherboard CPU and ram will need a upgrade. im starting to have to turn down a few settings when playing games. even on a fresh install of windows.
SSD might need a upgrade. starfield was one games i needed to turn down quite abit.. dont need New stuff that has just hit the market just something that will keep me going for a few more years getting old now :P

thank you.

maybe £1000 give or take. lower the better. got bills to pay :(

Save your money.
Update your bios and drop a 5800x3d in.
This for maximum fps or 5900x/5950x if you need the cores.
The 3070ti should still do a good job for a while but I would expect the 8GB vram to be a limit but the cost to upgrade wont be worth the performance increase until another generation comes out.
Starfield is honestly just way harder to run than it should be, I wouldn't take it alone as a benchmark for future games.

and add in a nvme ssd to be your main drive, your current 860 evo can become a media drive
unless you're desperate to waste your hard-earned money, these are the best bang-for-buck upgrades
I agree with this.

If after upgrading the CPU you’re finding the fps isn’t enough then consider to upgrade the graphics card as well. Wouldn’t bother changing the motherboard and RAM, you could go for an AM5 upgrade but it will cost you more. CPU and maybe GPU upgrades are all you probably need.

I can upgrade the CPU not a problem, what would be the best cpu to go with. and would it be ok with stock cooler as the one i was using broke.
also i don't think my motherboard takes nvme ssds, again if i can get one what would be the best to go with please.

thank you for all the help.

Yea just drop a 5800x3d in.

Are you monitoring your RAM, could get an extra 16gb.

But as above, you are in a good position that you can take your existing platform to a pretty good level without spending megabucks.

New CPU, SSD and more RAM (if you need it) and you are good to go.

You would need a cooler though, but you don't have to go nuts any half decent air cooler.

got a few quotes please mate, just so i know what price and parts needed thank you.
CPU: ryzen 5800x3d (can buy used or new)

Ram: any 2x 16gb 3200 or 3600mhz ram.
I wouldn't use 4x 8gb ram for ryzen as the memory controller can be quite (very) finicky.

SSD: Seagate firecuda 520 (from ocuk) or wd sn850x (not from ocuk) get 2TB for best cost-per-gb

Cooler:
Thermal right peerless assassin if you want to go big
Thermal right assassin king 120 se if you want cheap value.
(Both not from ocuk)
I've got the assassin king cooling my 5800x3d

The above parts should cost you £500-ish.

Yup, plus cooler.

Also, I would strongly suggest checking your motherboard can actually run that CPU (pretty sure it can) and flashing your BIOS before you buy.

coolers I'm a bit funny with them, I don't like the big ones sticking out, The Thermal right assassin king 120 is a good cheap cooler from what I've read but i think it would be touching the glass of my case :P
anyone got any pictures of it in there cases just so I know what to expect please

the motherboard supports
  • Supports AMD 5000 Series/ 5000 G-Series/ 4000 G-Series/ 3rd Gen Ryzen™/ 2nd Gen Ryzen™/ 1st Gen Ryzen™/ 2nd Gen Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics/ 1st Gen Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics/ Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics Processors
I'm sure the AMD 5000 is the one.
so I'm ok there as long as I flash the BIOS (wish me luck) I hate doing this part :P

again thank you.

i do have a spare -

PowerColor Radeon RX VEGA 64 Red Devil 8GB HBM2 PCI-Express Graphics Card sitting in its box. is the nvidia one still better ?

also just a another quick note, when updating the BIOS do i just do the top one!

Depends what bios your currently on, read the bios notes .

What bios version are you on ?

Spending £4/500 to invest in an EOL platform is a stupid idea.

Whilst I get the 5800x3D is a great cpu, if you're spending this much money just get a whole new intel/am5 platform.

no one shoud be buying a 5800x3D for £320!

I know i new motherboard and CPU might be the best but i just don't have the funds for a whole new system.
trust me i would love to.. i don't plan to upgrade my GPU anytime soon,

should i save up and wait !!
